Primary UM can be devided in two major classes. Metastatic progression is typically seen in one class of UM characterized by monosomy 3, but is rare in tumors with disomy 3. Therefore, monosomy 3 cell lines are most suitable for analyses of mechanisms and pathways contributing to metastatic progression. There is a tremendous market need, because currently only one alternative cell line is available with monosomy 3.
